Looking for a wedding venue in Kumeū? Only a 20 minute drive from Auckland CBD, Kumeū is home to many amazing wineries and venues, this list shows you my favourites - from DIY Barns to minimalist modern venues.
Kumeū is only a 15 minute drive to the west coast beach of Muriwai - the black sand and epic coastline makes it the perfect photoshoot location - especially at sunset.

1 . Markovina Vineyard Estate
Markovina is a family run operation that has been running for a very long time. If you love greenery then you’ve found the right place - even the reception building is filled with greenery, vines and plants cover the ceiling and make the space feel so alive.

2. Abel Estate
Formerly Gracehill Vineyard, now Abel Estate, this venue has undergone some serious renovations & upgrades, elevating the venue to something new entirely. The lush grounds give plenty of options for photos, including a lake with jetty. The ceremony space is in front of a white Rotunda, with lovely light pavers that bounce light perfectly. The reception space looks fantastic and modern, a light filled space. Abel Estate can seat 100 guests. For more information about the venue you can view their website here.
3. Whispering Waters
Whispering Waters is something special - looking out to 30 acres of regenerating native bush and orchards, there’s plenty of spots for your ceremony, photos and reception - this place is a photographer’s playground. They provide far more than a DIY event experience with dedicated catering space, accessible bathrooms, chairs + tables and vintage furniture galore.
The modern shed space is full of industrial character and serves as a neutral backdrop that requires minimal decoration. As they are not a winery nor a restaurant, you can bring BYO alcohol, food trucks or your favourite caterers at no extra cost. 4. Kumeu Valley Estate
A big red barn-like building with high timber ceilings, filled with fairy lights. A ceremony location onsite set against lush greenery and in the shade (great light for photos and no squinting guests). A wet weather ceremony option indoors in front of a crackling wood fire too. A variety of menu options available including speciality menus catering to Indian, Pacifica, and Sri Lankan cuisines. A great amount of space in the venue and lots of on site parking available too. 5. Waterfall Farm
If you want a festival style wedding, food truck, glamping and all - look no further - Waterfall Farm is the spot. Located in Kaukapakapa and surrounded by rolling hills, this is the perfect place for a chill relaxed country wedding.
The ceremony set up takes place in a beautiful little forest Glade, with enough natural log seating available for 80 guests. There is also extra standing space behind this seating, for guests to stand to watch the ceremony.

6. The Boathouse at The Riverhead
The site of the oldest riverside tavern in New Zealand which even holds the 2nd oldest liquor licence in NZ! This venue has a ceremony spot right under a historic oak tree and boasts views out over the river and surrounding countryside. A wet weather ceremony option on hand and a large reception space that can seat up to 140 guests with a long table setup. For more information check out their website here.
7. Bridgewater Estate
Bridgewater Estate have recently added this amazing new forest ceremony location which is an absolute dream. Your guests will enjoy weaving their way through a forest pathway to arrive at this incredible ceremony location. Bridgewater Estate has 16 acres of beautifully kept grounds, located in Kaukapakapa. The have an open air reception space with a a translucent roofing material which creates great light for the reception. Friendly & relaxed vibes, with lots of lush greenery onsite as well as the native forest walkways which make for epic photos. For more information check out their website here.
8. The Hunting Lodge
A modern take on a lodge. A newly furnished venue that combines country with class. The option to have you ceremony at multiple different locations on the expansive property. Also has a wet weather option for ceremonies. A vintage caravan operates as a bar serving drinks to your guests. Can accommodate between 60-250 guests depending on the day you’re planning. 9. Settlers Country Manor
Over 100 years old, this vintage themed venue is set on 7 acres of absolutely stunning and vibrant grounds. If you're a plant lover and a fan of greenery, this is the venue for you. Not only that, it's only a 14 minute drive from Muriwai Beach which gives you some great location options for offsite photos, although you can most certainly do all the photos onsite here too, there's no shortage of nice light and scenes to shoot. 10. Allely Estate
Located in Kumeu, Allely Estate is a venue that offers some great options - a large permanent marquee reception setup seats up to 200 guests. The lovely grounds make for stunning photos and great light - with access to neighbouring vineyard for amazing sunset photos. The grounds make for some epic and creative ceremony options. The reception space is spacious and accomodates a large dancefloor without having to move tables etc. For more information you can check out their website here.
11. HUs - Boutique Venue
If you have ever watched an episode of taskmaster NZ, then you'll definitely recognise this venue. HUs Boutique Venue is available for a select number of weddings, if you are keen for something different and also iconic as a comedy fan then you'll definitely appreciate this venue.
This venue is all about the BYO catering options, which really opens up the possibilities in terms of what you would like to feed your guests.
You have the option to have your ceremony down in front of a forest lined lake, or inside the studio. There is on site accommodation available, including the use of the iconic kitchen where David Correos could not find the glitter.

12. Tui Hills
Tui Hills is a lovely spot out west - located in Swanson, it is a bit further out the Kumeu but is well worth the drive. Just up the road from Bethel’s Beach which makes for great photos. This venue is surrounded by native bush and benefits from recent upgrades and the addition of a stunning new wet weather ceremony option. For more information visit their site here
13. Boutique Barn (Puhoi)
Boutique barn is a beautiful rustic venue set in the rural backdrop of Puhoi. With two Red old kauri barns joined together, with little pockets of vintage goodness. A long stretch adjoins the two barns and provides the perfect place to set up a long table for a romantic reception setting. The venue is suited to intimate celebrations, catering to weddings 1-50 guests. For more information view their website here.
